Co-op Field Schools

To be a successful local food business, having the right knowledge and skills is essential to success.  We offer education to our members through in person, virtual and peer to peer learning that heightens the expertise within the sector. Through education we can build a strong and resilient co-operative food system in Ontario.

Some examples of trainings offered:

For Staff - Human resources, mark-up, margin, best practices for marketing, costing, pricing, inventory and sales training, operations optimization,

For Board and Members - Financial management training, strategic planning, business and financial planning good governance, membership engagement, general manager hiring, incorporation, legal and risk management

Co-op Marketing

Leveraging the collective voice and power of the food co-op network, the LFFC is developing opportunities for collective purchasing, in store marketing and online communication tools to tell our stories and show our  co-operative difference.

Marketing materials available to members include infographics, a photo bank,. self-talkers, recipe cards and templates for vendor profiles and other promotion material, as well as user guides for members to get the best impact from these materials.

Co-operative Trade Routes

Through LFFC's trade routes program, we assist producer members of our member co-ops to access new markets in other co-ops throughout the province through inter-member distribution and back hauling. The LFFC is assisting in creating the link between members, and coordinating where possible the distribution between members.

Co-op development

Through our Peer-2-Peer Mentorship program or staff, LFFC offers resources, training and facilitation for start-up and transitioning co-ops. Staff have many years of experience in co-op management, development and leadership. We have worked with over a hundred co-ops since we began and are committed to the sustainable and robust growth of all co-operatives in the food and farming sector.
