Value Chain Coordination

Building equitable food systems through connection and collaboration.

The Grow-Ontario Agri-Food Strategy recognizes the importance of collaborative supply chains to support the growth of Ontario’s local food and farm sector. We have exited the era of individual competition and entered the age of collaboration. More and more businesses recognize the need to work together to compete in today’s market. Disruptions to the global supply chain are leaving opportunities for regional food hubs and value chains to capitalize on, but influential leaders are needed to support success.

We are here to help our food leaders, food hub managers, farm co-ops, processors and distributors to find more effective and innovative ways to be more competitive, resilient, and environmentally and socially responsible in our post-pandemic new normal.

WHAT IS

“Forging closer relationships between producers, processors, distributors and customers transforms supply chains into integrated value chains.  This is found as the strongest strategy with the greatest potential to enhance the viability of regional mid-sized farms.”

Value Chain Coordination Circle

We are here to help support place-based relationships and values-based food systems that bring food from seed to plate. Join our Value Chain Coordination (VCC) Circle, a community of practise that brings people and organizations across Ontario's supply chain (farmers, processors, manufacturers, distributions and more) to the table to share best practices, exchange knowledge, collectively problem-solve to overcome shared challenges, and tangibly measure our collective impact to communicate our successes.

What you'll find in our VCC Circle:

  • Resources Library on VCC

  • VCC Workshops and Training

  • Peer-led Meet-ups and Networking

  • Community Discussions

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Building Relationships with Shared Values

Food Value Chain Coordination helps build relationships between all of these areas, between the people who work these various roles, into a holistic framework encompassing all of these elements and more.

Food is one of the unique elements that cross-cuts every industry and sector. From agriculture to transportation, from social policy to waste management, food is hard to pin down because it’s so universal and the issues that stem from inequitable access or inefficient systems have a ripple effect.

Our approach to Food Value Chain Coordination resolves some of these issues by bringing together various actors throughout the chain to communicate their needs and collaborate with others across sectors. Sometimes it takes some outside-of-the-box type thinking.

Our Community Food Practitioners are experienced in handling such situations and bringing unlikely stakeholders together. We create custom service packages to suit the needs of your food community.
